About

I specialise in drawing highly detailed studies of vessels of all types, which have been sold nationally and overseas.

About the Artist

A love of the sea from an early age was inspired by stories from my grandfather who worked on many of the river steamers in Hobart. My father told stories of endless days as a child, taking in the atmosphere of the steam ferries as they plied the waterways around D’Entrecasteaux channel and Huon rivers. As children, my brother and I had adventures in the boats that dad built, traveling around the local waterways, and racing his highly detailed model yachts across the channel river.

From these adventures, I noticed how light interacted with the water. The reflections, the glistening of light on the ripples, and the fractured lines of where a hull of a vessel meets the water.

Rediscovering Art at Sea

In my early 20’s I joined the Royal Australian Navy, and when at sea was always drawn to finding a quiet spot, to sit, and take in the motions of water, the wake, and the ever-changing forms of the ocean. Rekindling a spark, I started drawing again, of the ships I served on, and ships I saw on the voyages.

Lately, I have moved into other mediums including, watercolour, acrylics and oil paintings, continuing initially in seascapes, but lately working on studies of Tasmanian landscapes and the many islands around this beautiful state.
